Pain Relief and Sports Medicine aren’t the only services that are available at South Jersey Sports Acupuncture. Many people come in for general health and well-being. Acupuncture is great for stress relief and relaxation. Acupuncture helps restore your body and mind. Acupuncture is dedicating an hour of peace and quiet to yourself with no interruptions. It’s the perfect time to let go and decompress.
Not only do you get an hour to relax and unwind in a comfortable and quiet treatment room, acupuncture amplifies the experience by altering body chemistry in a favorable way. One of the most popular benefits of acupuncture is the release of endorphins.
Burning the candle at both ends, chronic stress, and constant pressure can deplete us of our endorphins. Endorphins are the body’s feel good chemicals. Without endorphins, we have trouble relaxing and we tend to experience more irritability and discomfort. Endorphins help us combat the effects of stress which helps our body systems work like they should. When everything is working in harmony, we feel happier, less anxious, and our immune systems are stronger making us more resistant to sickness and disease.
Acupuncture, like meditation, helps to induce feelings of well-being. Many people have difficulty meditating. Meditation is a great way to de-stress and balance the brains chemistry. Studies have proven this over and over. For people who have difficulties meditating, acupuncture… electro-acupuncture especially, can be a great way to bring balance to the body and mind.
With electro-acupuncture, a gentle micro-current is run through specific points. The current is applied in slow pulses of one or two beats per second. After about 10-12 minutes of this, the pituitary releases it’s stores of endorphins. It’s usually very clear when this happens. The patient may be on the table thinking about the day and things they need to do. At about the 12 minute mark, a sense of peace and tranquility will wash over this person and many times they will fall asleep. Sometimes, if a person is chronically stressed, it may take a few treatments for this effect to happen, but eventually it does.
Over time and with regular treatments, the pituitary gland will not only release it’s endorphins, but each time it does it will fill up with even more endorphins until it is functioning at it’s normal state again. At this point, the patient can reduce their treatment frequency and come in for maintenance.
Please call or schedule and appointment to experience this if you are in need of stress reduction or are looking to improve the quality of your life.
